Momtastic – Imaraah Hussain – Cooking up a Storm

The purpose of my blog has been to share my journey as a parent, and to celebrate motherhood! Not just me, but mommies all around me as well! And with that in mind, I am starting a new section called MOMTASTIC ?!  I will be interviewing inspirational mommas who are wearing multiple hats, and managing it all with panache!

The November momtastic momma is Imaraah Hussain, a great chef who whips up some amazing food! She is a mom of two, son Aidh, who is 4 years old, and 5 month old daughter, Zoya. I am very excited to feature this lovely momma! Because her cooking made my baby shower a great hit!

Name

Imaraah Fiaz Hussain

Explain Yourself in about 10 words

A happy mom of two, who enjoys making different food, travelling and exploring flavours and cultures!

Tell us about your Business?

Ima’s Kitchen is a home based catering service. I undertake orders for a variety of delicacies from around the world. Living in one of the most internationally diverse communities here in Qatar has given me the opportunity to learn bout and to cater to multiple communities!

Why did you launch this as a Business? Tell us about your Journey so far..

Right from my childhood, I used to love cooking. My mom taught me the basics of baking, flavours and other techniques. As a hobby, I used to write down recipes when cookery shows aired on TV and I loved trying them out. After getting married, my husband bought me so many books on food to read and try out different recipes which included exotic ingredients. That’s when he encouraged me to take my love for cooking to next level and that’s how Ima’s Kitchen was created. I feel blessed to do what I love, and to be able to turn my passion into a business. And I love to offer the unique taste of Ima’s Kitchen to the people of Qatar.

What makes your business unique??

My exposure to different communities and ethnicities, and their cultures including their flavours and cooking styles. I travel to different parts of the world to explore, try out local flavours and through Ima’s Kitchen, I try to offer it to Doha.

How do you juggle motherhood and work?

Every day is a new day with both my kids. I learn to be more patient, organized, and understanding. With every single day that passes, I realize how important it is to spend time with children. When it comes to work, it is always best to have everything organized. Of course, at times, it gets overwhelming when the children demand for love and attention from you. Thankfully, I have a good support system at home that offers me help when I need.

What is the best part of your work? What were the challenges involved?

I love meeting people from different parts of the world, and getting a sneak peak into their love for food. Being part of special occasions, and being part of their celebrations through my food makes me happy! I love gathering experiences through travelling, and discovering new food! I believe that facing challenges are the roads to discover your own strengths. You have to believe in yourself and learn to play to your strength. When I keep working with recipes over and over again, I tell myself that I am preparing to be the best version of myself!

As for challenges – what is life without some struggle eh? Life gets busy sometimes, as it will with kids around. Maintaining consistent standard is important to me, so that is a challenge I set for myself! As for challenging experiences, here is an unforgettable one –  I had to make 120 frozen savoury food items in one day.

Any advice for Mompreneurs?
