    Impressions from a cloth-diapering mommy..

One of the most important aspects of parenting is to keep an open mind. Understand that different parents do things differently than you. And something that is gaining popularity, but not something I have (as yet) considered for myself is cloth diapering. I realized there are many mommies like me, who probably are not quite comfortable with the thought of it, but there are also many who swear by it. So, I got talking to the founder of the Cloth Diapering Doha FB support group, Ivory Llamas-Macatangay. she is a mom of a one year old, with another on the way, to find out more, and dispel myths related to…

Thoughts of a Formula Feeding Mom

Over the course of the last year, I have spoken to a lot of women, and it has always been interesting and enlightening to hear so many different perspectives, and insights. And those who follow my blogs and posts know that I am a huge advocate for breastfeeding, and always encourage it. But I also like to listen to stories of moms who don’t, either as a choice or because they didn’t know any better. I must admit that there have been times I too have wondered why anyone would opt for formula, but listening to moms and their lives has changed my views. What matters is that the baby…

    Pediatricians in Doha..

Every family needs a good pediatrician! One that they can trust, and count on. One that both the parents and the wee ones are comfortable with. And initially, I was under the impression that there was only one or two recommended doctors. But I am glad I was wrong! Here are some of the more popular pediatricians in Qatar! Dr Ghada Nasrat Clinic: Fetomaternal Clinic, Markhiya Contact: 44756369 Charges: QR 300/consultation “We love Dr. Ghada. When we were looking for a ped, she was among the most recommended docs. And one trip to her and we knew why. She is gentle, and warm, and really interacts with the baby. She…

    Baby Rooms in Doha

When you start going out with an infant, one question that constantly nags you is what would you if you had to change his diaper, or even worse, if it a poopy explosion and you need to change his clothes too (hopefully not yours as well). Baby rooms in Doha! Tadaa! The solution to all of our problems. A baby room is also very important for women who are not comfortable to breast feed in public – with or without a cover. Personally, I prefer a baby room, which allow both mom and dad, to go into but that isn’t always an option. Yet. But I do think change is…

    The Supplemental Nursing System

Moms breastfeed. That just seems to be the way life is supposed to be, and that is nature, right? Yes, but sometimes, it isn’t all roses and love and free flowing milk supply! And we look at one method moms use to feed – the supplemental nursing system. I have always maintained that breastfeeding is incredibly difficult; immensely rewarding and wonderful once you get the hang of it; but also something that constantly plays on your mind. Supply can genuinely be an issue. Some give up trying, and opt to formula feed – mind you, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some others try to mix feed – breast…

Must Buys : For the Infant!

Everyone talks about things to buy for a newborn baby. There are tons of shopping lists available, and parents delightfully go overboard (I know I did). But what about a little later? After the three month phase is over. Clothes, diapers, bottles are a given but there definitely is more on the list. As the baby grows, their needs and wants change as well, and these are what I think is required. I have also had help from some wonderful moms of the Positive Birth Doha group in compiling this list! 1. SLEEPING BAG: Once the baby begins to roll over, you need to say bye bye to the swaddles!…

    Bub’s Diary – India Bound..

Dear Diary, Wooohooo. It was time for another trip. And this time it is to the country which my parents call the motherland – India. I have only heard people talk about it, so I was very excited to go! And obviously, knowing my mom and dad, I knew for sure it would be a super packed schedule. And ofcourse, momma books tickets for Thursday night, which means there is just no time to breathe or relax after nursery, and we have to pack up and leave in a rush rush rush. I never understood why my folks travel like they are moving countries? And they blame me! They are…

    Cold and Flu!

It really is heartbreaking when bubba gets a phlegmy nose, and cough and not being able to help him much. Babies fall ill very easily because their immune systems are as yet immature, and still in the developing stages. But infant cold and flu is really upsetting! It definitely is! In the last six months, we have one severe experience and at least one more okay experience with this. When we took him to the pediatrician when it was a bad case, she told us that for babies that young, they would prefer not giving any medications, and to let it run its course – only nasal drops. We were…
